I took advantage of a work trip to Edmonton last week–braving not just the weather, but the surprise of people who knew I had chosen to launch myself right into the heart of winter–to visit the two best editors and publishers in Canada: Julie Yerex and Netta Johnson of Stonehouse! Over the best food I’ve had in a long time (Pip, you have got to try it to believe it), we kibbitzed about their growing lineup of books and authors, the book prize and LitFest season, and the writing and reading life.
Canada is massive, the distances are so great, the weather in between can be downright hostile, and too much gets done over email and text, but nothing beats a good sit down with wonderful people, sharing food and ideas in convivial splendour. Working with Julie and Netta has been one of the best parts of being a Canadian writer.
